NERO® at GenCon!
NERO is a Live Action Role Playing organization which
brings the medieval-fantasy role-playing experience to life through costume,
atmosphere, danger and intrigue. Gaming is much more exciting when done in a
live, face-to-face environment. Instead of describing your characters actions,
you actually have to perform them, doing what we used to describe. There are
four character classes and over a dozen fantasy races to choose from. You can
engage in sword combat using foam swords and spell battles, disarm traps,
interact with dozens of different races, and rise to nobility without ever
rolling a single die.
GenCon Event Info:
Our Concept is to have a room designated as a Tavern, where
players are invited to learn about the game and role-play. In a second room,
they will join in a group to fight monsters, solve puzzles and role-play a
scenario for a 1 hour period. The outcome of the scenario affects the "Finale
Event", which would take place Saturday evening. After the adventure is
over, the players return to the tavern to divide up treasure and brag about
their exploits.
How will NERO® Work at GenCon?
Before players enter the game they must sit through a
small game rule explanation, receive a character sheet describing their
character's skills, background, and be given a few rumors they might have heard.
From there, they will enter the tavern where they can sit down and role play
with other players and a few of our Non-Player-Characters, played by our staff.
They may have an opportunity to be "hooked" by an NPC into a NERO adventure
where they will spend 30 minutes to an hour testing their wits and skills
against such foes as the vile undead, the thieves' guild, the honorable Minotaur
herds, and the weak though numerous goblins, all of whom will be wearing full
costume or foam masks, immersing the players even deeper into their role and
their adventure. After the adventure is over, the players return to the tavern
to divide up treasure and brag about their exploits.
The NERO®
Game System
At
NERO, all characters are played by a person who is dressed in medieval fantasy
garb, even the monsters. Combat is resolved through announcing one's damage as
an action is taken, thus, the action is continuous, even when it comes to a
battle. Safety and fun are our primary concerns, so we provide all weapons and
train players to use them properly. We have never had a safety issue at any
convention event.
Our
staff is knowledgeable and courteous, and we enjoy running quality roleplaying
games to entertain all roleplayers, regardless of age and physical talent.
Plot Specifics
about the Proposed Event:
Adventure
Modules
Each 2 hour Adventure Module will have 10 to 20 attendees who will learn the
basic concepts of NERO and will join forces to work as a team towards a common
goal, through roleplaying, combat, puzzles and other clues and hints. Any
player may sign up for one or more Adventure Modules.
Each
group will be tasked with a certain goal, such as to retrieve an artifact, find
information, catch a villain or solve a short mystery.
Each
group's degree of success will have an effect on the events of the Finale on
Saturday evening and all who play an Adventure Module will be eligible to attend
the Finale.
The Saturday Finale at GenCon
All of the players are all invited to attend the
Tournament (Saturday from noon to 6pm) as a result of their aid of the Kingdom
of Evendarr in the Adventure Modules. At the Tournament, there will be
intrigue, puzzles, combats, in addition to the Tournament itself. Prizes will
be awarded as in-game treasure and the players will be encouraged to work
together and share information through the need to overcome a common threat in
the form of a terrible undead creature that has come to the Tournament to rid
the lands of these living intruders.
