Some things in NERO naturally break emmersion such as white headbands and calling a hold, however, even these things can be few and far between (I think we only had 1 hold all weekend and it was for a medical reason). The things that I had begun to notice this past weekend were all of the NERO social norms: putting a hand on your head to say something out of game, asking a monster "what do I see?", and just flat out talking about things that are not in the game world. Have any of you fellow NERO players run into the same irritations or frustrations with unnecessary OOG chatter? How do you or your NERO chapter deal with this? Have you found any solutions that work for you or others? Just looking to start some good dialogue on the topic and share some ideas on how to improve the emmersion at NERO. Discuss! SHUT UP DEAD BODIES DONT TALK. SHUT UP. STOP TALKING YOU DEAD BODY WE KILLED YOU ALREADY. the subtle methods for keeping people in game can easily be something in game as well to counter the out of game. explaining to newer players that they need to stay in game . the more drastic measures would include actual punishment from staff . asking that player to stop talking to you. me personally. i follow the "ill make you feel dumb" method. for people that need to be told twice. sure it hurts the ego a little. but hey, youll learn. i break immersion alot as well. but i have joey to counter me as well when i get off track.

Mod cards - upon being picked up, the player stays in game. They represent either a key (not necessarily a literal key) to a dungeon, an entrance to which guidance is needed to pass, or a clue that requires a guide to follow. Plot shack - our shack mistress plays a character called the Archaeologist and remains in game for the entirety of the event (except to sleep) Going on mods - PCs are either given direction to the module area and instructions on how to get there, or (more often) guided there by an in-game NPC who describes what's going on with in-game verbiage. Tavern - Our tavern keep is in-game, and (last event) our tavern was warded. OOG Questions - Should be asked in-game, in an in-game way. Hand-on-head - We don't allow it, even for our NPCs. If you want to go out of game, you put on a white headband. There is very limited set of conditions when it's acceptable to go out of game. Silent Combat - By having less noise in combat, we can better hear incants and thus have less people yelling "Did you get that Sleep spell?" We are ALL still getting used to Silent Combat, but IMO it really helps. Holds - We only use them for medical purposes only. I am quite tempted to ask my NPCs / plot members to get glasses straps or prescription goggles. Every hold that I heard of last event was because of glasses getting knocked off. Starting in June, we will try to have the second half of our PC Speech in-game.

Have any of you fellow NERO players run into the same irritations or frustrations with unnecessary OOG chatter? How do you or your NERO chapter deal with this? Have you found any solutions that work for you or others? Many, many irritations and frustrations, I just do my best to not let it get to me. I'm not sure what official policies, if any my local chapter has. My solutions have ranged over the years from considering OOG talk in-game small talk like how the trip went or what the character was doing in between events to straight out ignoring them or having my character believe they were crazy. Headbanders had strange powers that let them appear and vanish in-game when they put on or removed their headband. They were either killed for being perceived a threat or avoided like the plague. More or less if someone is breaking immersion I'll do everything I can think of not to break my own. I've screwed up at times, but everyone has. I think my biggest gripe is sunglasses. It doesn't happen often but when I see someone wearing them in-game the go straight to the 'don't deal with this person' category. There's no excuse for blatant anachronisms like that. Edit:Yeesh, why didn't someone tell me I had a headache-inducing run-on sentence? [ Edited Fri May 04 2012, 10:59AM ]

Sorry, but I'm not going to drop my coinpurse and magic items in the middle of the tavern just because I had a medical issue and had to call fate of the party.

Maybe a chapter will give you a pass for medical reasons but the rules are clear that you can't carry tags while OOG. This probably applies to coins as well. Crimsons comment is probably targeted more at those who go OOG for non medical reasons in the middle of the game.
